PhD in Geography (1996) and Full Professor of Regional Geographical Analysis (2026) at the University of Huelva. His areas of research include: territorial studies, agricultural studies, tourism, rural and/or local development, strategic planning and urban planning, and transport infrastructure. In terms of academic output, he has published – as director, coordinator, editor and/or author – 30 books, 48 journal articles, 95 book chapters and 60 papers presented at conferences. He has participated in 12 competitive R&D&I research projects (Principal Investigator in 6), 26 research contracts (Principal Investigator in 7) and 8 agreements. He has supervised 10 doctoral theses (TD), with a further 3 TDs currently in progress, as well as 52 Master’s theses (TFM), 3 Postgraduate Diplomas (DEA) and 10 Bachelor’s theses (TFG). He is a member of the “Institute of Local Development” (HUM-260) research group at the University of Huelva. He has been awarded 3 six-year research periods, 3 positive evaluations under the Docentia Programme and 6 five-year teaching periods.
