Abstract

The goal of our research was to study the evolution of cognitive structures in reference to the concept of nursing diagnosis in two groups of students who solved with different methodologies (critical thinking or traditional methodology) clinical case studies. The nursing diagnosis has been our object of study. This concept since its integration into the academic curriculum, has caused much discussion in various forums both in teaching and clinical areas. Regarding the methodological approach, we opted for a joint study in which both qualitative and quantitative strategies were used. Qualitative clinical study for practical cases and quantitative for the evaluation of cognitive structures. The measuring instruments used were templates for evaluating the quality of nursing diagnoses and Pathfinder Associative Networks to obtain information about cognitive structures. As for the results we have seen that the nursing diagnoses of higher quality were identified by the group that did apply critical thinking. Similarly it has been with the development of cognitive structures, which has outperformed the traditional group methodology.
