Abstract

The present Doctoral Thesis analyses the set of programmes, policies and events set in motion in Spain in 1992, especially from the perspective of its impact for the international relations of the country. In that year there was the Commemoration of theV Centenary of the Discovery of America and events such as the II Ibero-American Summit of heads of State and Government, the Olympic Games in Barcelona, the Universal Exposition of Seville or Madrid as the European City of Culture were held. Concurrently other programmes and events composed a mosaic of unprecedented initiatives for Spain in an essential period for the international projection of the country. Although the works which analyse the aforementioned period in Spain are currently growing, there are so far no historiographic studies which jointly analyse the initiatives launched in the country in 1992...
