compulsory secondary education in spain finishes at the age of 16 years old. nevertheless, many students do not complete their degree because of school dropout. As research shows, absenteeism, as a behaviour that reflects indifference and disconnection from the educational context, is frequently a prelude to failure and later dropout. different factors, such as the same characteristics and expectations of students, same school - high school organization, and the family context and participation, were studied to deal with the processes of inclusion-dropout of students. This article aims to ascertain whether absenteeism is similar between immigrants and non-immigrants groups in Huelva. it also seeks to investigate if it is linked to some of the factors mentioned above, or to others reported in the literature, including the influence of social and personal networks. A survey/ interview was applied to a sample of 206 young, men and female, in twelve different secondary schools in the academic year 2010/11.
