Abstract
A retrospective study of patients with cancer of larynx or hypopharynx was carried out at the Hospital General Universitario de Castellón during a period of ten years (1998-2007), focusing on the epidemiology, evolution, treatment and survival. The results coincide with what is described in other studies: an incidence that decreases with the years, predominantly male patients, seventh decade of life, smokers and drinkers, who consult after several months of clinic. There are variations between laryngeal and hypopharyngeal localization both in the clinic and the stage at the time of diagnosis. The surgical option was the most used, the most performed procedure was total laryngectomy. The results in percentage of cure as well as recurrence or survival are similar to those of the series compared. Survival in the present study is determined by age, presence of adenopathies, tumor stage and presence of tumor recurrence.
