The Port of Huelva, institution of a pronounced economic character in Huelva, capital and province, stands out too by its importance and significance in the political, social and cultural order and its impact in the national and international trade. It starts its pace in 1873, impelled by outstanding businessmen and influencial politicians of the province of Huelva, in a crucial moment for the economy: the arrival of foreign capitals because of the Industrial Revolution. The influential people of the age make up the Board of Directors of an institution that occupies a pre-eminent place in the stage that we study. The goods trade has an upward progression and it is clearly export trade, above all towards Europe, with the predominance of minerals, specially the pyrites. Other outstanding subjects are the port works, here we study their evolution, the staff and the intense relationships of the Port with the city.
