Abstract

The origin of this Thesis is based on the need to have a detailed meteorological information to increase the understanding of the physico-chemical processes that take place in western Andalusia. Therefore, the aim of this Thesis is to carry out a meteorological characterization of western Andalusia using both meteorological observations and modeling tools, such as the HYSPLIT dispersion model and the mesoscale meteorological model, WRF. We have studied the temporal and spatial variability of temperature, humidity and wind. We have characterized the air masses over the study area and identified the associated meteorological scenarios. We have defined a working configuration for WRF model in this area, applying it in typical weather scenarios (breezes and westerly advection). We have applied both meteorological models, HYSPLIT and WRF, to understand the spatial and temporal behavior of different chemical species (aerosols and gases) in the atmosphere.
