Abstract

The proclamation of the Second Republic amrked an attempt to update the old structures of our country and also the beginning of a coherent political proyect capable of initiating significant social change, The new government headed by Azaña tried to archive trhough education and culture the old regenerative aim and accepted the principles of the �Institución Libre de Enseñanza�. This study we herewith presenting can be understood as piece of microhistory. We have tried to focus on the role played by local public institutions, specially Ayuntamiento and Diputación, and their efforts to find a solution to the old problems in Huelva: lack of culture and shortage of schools. At the same time we would like to have a look at the attention people paid to changes, and we eager to improve their social and professional role. As a conclusion to this study we would like to point out that although the Republic was able to solve all the educational problems.
