Abstract

The end of the 19th Century and the first years of the new one were a great moment in Austria, where people lived according to the social uses of the old Empire. The culture life was changing, as the new authors did not have their meetings at the Academy anymore; the new center of literature was the Cafes. That�s the way why the literary production had a radical change and it became an art based on fast impresions and moments. This impresions marked the soul of the author. Peter Altenberg developed himself in this new cultural atmosphere and he was going to be considered, because of his short prose, as prototyp and archetyp of this new vienese culture. He creates a new literature composed by poems in prose, anecdotes and aforisms.
