Abstract

The current importance of photovoltaic systems for electricity generation is increasing rapidly. This growth is one of the highest in the field of renewable energy, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years. As an outcome, a growing number of new components and photovoltaic systems, mainly modules and inverters, are emerging in the photovoltaic market. The need to characterize these systems has become an increasingly important subject. In this context, this PhD Dissertation aims to contribute in the characterization of the I-V and P-V curves of photovoltaic generators by means a methodology based on DC/DC converters. The property that allows DC/DC converters behave as emulators of resistance is analyzed, and methods for the design and implementation of measuring systems based on this methodology are proposed.
