Abstract

This PhD thesis is divided in two chapters. The first one is devoted to the synthesis and structural characterisation of new Ru(II) complexes with aliphatic diamines as ligands. These derivatives are prepared using polymeric [RuCI2(diene)]n as starting materials and their use as precatalysts in transfer hydrogenation reactions of ketones are described. The second chapter involves the use of TpxCu complexes as catalysts for the insertion of ethyldiazoacetate into N-H and O-H bonds of amines and alcohols, respectively. High activity and selectivity for these transformations are displayed by TpxCu complexes used in this study. These complexes have been also used as catalyst in carbine addition reactions such those involving an aromatic ring as substrate. The competition between carbine addition and carbine insertion into C-H bonds of aliphatic substituent on the aromatic ring is controlled by the nature of Tpx ligands.
