Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyse the change that occurs in life satisfaction and depressive symptoms during adolescence and to identify the explanatory factors . A longitudinal design with two waves separated by one year has been used, employing a questionnaire in a sample was composed of 714 students. The present study has shown, firstly, that the depressive symptoms increase and the level of life satisfaction decreases after the follow-up. Secondly, results have shown that girls have more depressive symptoms than boys. Thirdly, results suggest that better family relationships, a good school adjustment, a better relationship with peers, healthier lifestyles, better self-esteem and body satisfaction, more adaptive responses to positive and negative emotions, a greater emotional intelligence, and a better perceived health, among other features, explain a greater life satisfaction and a lower presence of depressive symptoms during adolescence
