Abstract

The study «Intercultural Education in values through comics. The graphic-visual language as a learning strategy» is the result of the participation in a project funded by the European Commission, in particular the Directorate- General for Justice, Freedom and Security within the INTI (Integration of immigrants), developed in the Lai- momo Cooperative and Eurodialog and in collaboration with Africa e Mediterraneo (Italy), Grupo Comunicar (Spain), L'Afrique Desciñe (France), Transfit (Spain), Le Comptoir cfu Livre ('Belgium), CSAssociazione di Coope¬razione Allo Sviluppo (Italy), Agronomi senza Frontiere (Italy) y Fumo di China (Italy). The development of this research has attempted to advance in the establishment of intercultural values shared by all cultures from our society in general, and in associations and educational environments, in particular. So we delimit our field of study specifically in cultural, educational, youth, neighborhood associations and institutions. In addition, our work has focused on making contact with the multicultural reality by contextualizing the action framework through descriptive analysis of the environment of multicultural associations, divided into different geographical areas of Huelva and in different cultural environments being especially significant the participation on social, educational and cultural integration. Interpersonal values of the members of the educational communities have been detected with the intention of establishing the starting axiological content for critical dialogue and agreement for an education in intercultural values. In the theoretical framework we focus first on making a comprehensive and cumsnt sodaf contextua/rzation of education in intercultural values in the contemporary society. This approach to the perspectives and approaches, complexity and global nature of multiculturalism, and the consequences and institutional responses and social causes is considered to be essential. The relevance of education in intercultural values in this society and conceptual clarification of basic terms to understand the intercultural values in education analyzing in detail the transmission of intercultural values in today's society is provided. Moreover, monitoring is done to face the challenges of education in values from the family, school, the media and associations jointly. We also consider the media as the core of transmission of intercultural values, where intercultural education values come together with the media as the transmission shaft of such values. In order to finish the background, a theoretical review of the comic as a means of graphic-visual learning is contributed by a brief historical, conceptual and structural path. We also present the comic as an educational resource and learning strategy and its possibilities within the institutions trying to respond adequately to the demands of a diverse society. The study has enabled the direct knowledge of the real situations and contexts of multiculturalism in our nearest society, in educational institutions and associations where the answers that have been carried out and the detection of values, gave us rise to a subsequent thoughtful inclusion in the daily life of an open community center as well as the way to move forward in living, meeting and adoption within an intercultural approach.
