Resumo

In compliance with European standards, since 2005, Spanish companies included in the scope of Directive 2003/87/EC are required to offset the carbon dioxide emissions from its facilities with the delivery of the different compliance units including in Kyoto Protocol (emission allowances, certified emission reductions and / or emission reduction units) obtained through the flexibility mechanisms (trading market, CDM and JI). The aim of this paper is to analyze the strategies of carbon offsets through the analysis and evolution of the application of the flexibility projects-based mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol by the Spanish industry with limited emissions. The results reflect a reduced level of direct investment in projects and different behaviours according to sectors in the period analyzed.
