Resumen
A synthesis of the geological context for the archaeological area of the Huelva town is provided. Three of the four formations or lithostratigraphic units Mio-Pliocene in age, defined for the province are recognized, being represented from bottom to top by: Gibraleón Clays Fm., Huelva Sands and Fm. and Bonares Sands Fm. The paleoenvironmental significance of these formations is exposed as well as the exceptional marine paleontological record.
