Abstract

Autism or the «autistic spectrum syndrome» constitutes a deep developmental disorder, whose alterations at the behavioural level contribute by themselves to limit the capacity of the person who suffers it to develop any kind of learning. Research works whose aim is improving to the highest level the learning capacity of these subjects have shown that a relatively effective way of tackling the elimination or decrease of those behavioural alterations is the application of the behaviour modification technology. This article tries to: 1st Give a general view of the behavioural symptoms which this syndrome presents; 2nd. Show the way of planning a behavioural intervention aimed to the establishment of adapted behaviours; 3rd. Specify the most adequate behaviour modification techniques for the setting-up and maintenance of adapted behaviours and eliminate those considered as non-adapted or lacking a functional character, and 4th. Make a detailed description of the conditions and steps which must be taken for the application of the above mentioned techniques.
