Abstract

In this fast-paced era of consumerism, so dominated by images, there are many who affirm that reading is suffering an acute crisis. In this article, I suggest the urgent necessity of awakening and recuperating the passion for reading, above all in educational settings. In the first instance, the transcendence of the reading experience for human development is highlighted. Then, I analyze the typical reading guidelines for the school reader or, if you like, the most habitually encountered pedagogical or school reading experiences, above all of literary texts. In this analysis Quixote is taken as an illustration and a connecting thread that, after all, is itself the story of a passionate reader. Finally, this article suggests a model for reading with true educational potential, based on the ingenuous rapprochement, free and convivial, between reader and text.
