Abstract

The geochemical study of shallow sediments of the Huelva littoral allows us to establish the marine area under the influence of very polluted inputs from the Tinto and Odiel rivers. This zone is located southeastern Mazagón and it shows moderate concentrations of Cu, Pb, Zn and Hg. Samples collected from Isla Cristina to Punta Umbría are very less polluted. A new polluted focus has been detected in very fine sands located in front of Isla Cristina. The origin of this highly polluted area is unknown at the present time.
