Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present the cataloguing work of the mining and industrial heritage of the Riotinto mining bowl during the last 300 years, since the reopening of the mines during the Borbon dynasty in 1725 until the end of the mining activities in 2002. This work has been done by means of the Geographical Information Systems (SIG). Emphasizing the most important period, the British stage between 1873 and 1954, when the mines were worked by The Rio Tinto Company Limited. The analysis of the information relating geographical and thematic variables has been achieved with this system. Finally this GIS will provide an important tool for spatial planning.
