Resumen
Along the northwestern foreland margin of the Guadalquivir Basin, Southern Spain, various deltaic systems were developed during the Tortonian as a result of the interplay between the sea level fluctuations and the continental sediment supply. Three sectors were distinguished with distinct characteristics of the depositional environments, as recorded in: (a) extension, (b) topographic gradient, (c) sediment grain-size, and (d) subenvironment lithofacies. The most extended deltaic system is located in the eastern sector, with moderate to high topographic gradient and broad deltaic plain, with marshes and braided channels. The topographic gradient is moderate lo low in the other sectors. The prograding/ transgressing trends of each deltaic system were controlled by: (a) their alluvial feeding systems, and(b) the coastal processes.
