Abstract

The dependence defined and governed since 2006 by the law of dependence 39/2006 directly affects all those who are in a situation of special vulnerability and require support to develop the essential activities of daily life, achieving greater personal autonomy and fully exercise their rights of citizenship. However, because of the vulnerability to which we refer, it should be a direct link between dependence and old age concept since, because of the conditions presented and leads the group of seniors, it is integrally related to the themes of dependence and therefore be argued that a high percentage of people in situations of dependency are elderly people. In this sense, this paper aims to analyze, from a quantitative standpoint, the impact it has had the law of dependence (LAPAD) in the group of elderly in Spain, by autonomous communities. Previously the concepts of old age and dependence in order to establish similarities and differences are discussed. The significant progress in what regards to risk coverage, occurred in the group of elderly from the introduction of that law is concluded.
