Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the responses by 224 Psychology students from the University of Huelva, Spain, to an open-ended question, where they need to set the hypotheses in a statistical test problem. Using the Onto-semiotic Approach to mathematical cognition we analyze the mathematical practices implicit in the responses to discover the semiotic conflicts that produce inadequate responses. As a result we present a classification of different semiotic conflicts related to objects that intervene in setting the statistical hypotheses.
