Abstract

A comparative study was carried out between the removal abilities of T. versicolor, developed in liquid medium and the vegetal biomass of Sechium edule with spines. Both biomass were dehydrated and ground. The bioassays were performed at room temperature and pH controlled. The percentages of removal of congo red were 78.83 and 75.35% for S. edule and T. versicolor respectively. For bromocresol green for removal percentages were 86.34% with Sechium edule and 72% with T. versicolor. In both cases, it was observed that the biomass S. edule had greater potential to remove both congo red without pH control as bromocresol green at pH 4. This implies an advantage of Sechium edule against the production of ligninolytic fungi which have recently been studied for degradation of dyes; whose main disadvantage is its cultivation which require controlled conditions.
