Résumé

The discovery of several speiss plaques in the Roman slag heaps from the El Registro sector at the Sotiel-Coronadamine (Calañas, Huelva), serves as an argument for us to delve into the history of the investigation of this metallurgicalresidue and the different interpretations that have been raised since their discovery during the seventeenth centuryin the Roman slag heaps in the mines of Riotinto. Our analysis indicate that they are a by-product of the treatmentof complex minerals, rich in arsenic and antimony, which were reduced in Roman times for both copper and silverproduction.
