Resum

We report here an art therapy program carried out for 16 months at the San Joaquín and Santa Ana Senior Center in San Juan del Puerto (Huelva). This project aimed to evaluate the effect (in terms of efficacy and effectiveness) of the arteriovenous intervention in elderly people affected by Alzheimer's disease, other senile dementias or neurocognitive disorders of late onset and / or depression. The usefulness of art therapy (TA) has been measured and evaluated in improving the psychosocial situation of elderly people affected by Alzheimer's disease (AD) or major neurocognitive disorder (NMS) and elderly people with depression. The cognitive development tests show a comparative improvement in the intervention group, compared to the control group, a significant but moderate improvement. Regarding perception of quality of life, variables involved in emotional, motivational and attitudinal strengthening, more behaviors related to interpersonal relationships and involvement in activities aimed at personal autonomy. The evaluation performed by psychological staff and the center, plus the one issued by external evaluators, concludes that the art therapy program has improved the quality of life, slowing cognitive deterioration
