Resumo

The ostracods from the section-type of the ''Arcillas de Gibraleón'' Formation, described by Civis et al. (1987) in the western sector of the Guadalquivir Basin, are here studied. This section is composed by clays and marls of the lower part of this Formation. This materials are a Tortonian-Messinian age, according to planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannoplankton and confirmed by the present ostracod faunas. The study of ostracods indicate the transition from a lower epibatyal association in the Tortonian, with Krithe, Parakrithe, Cytherella and Henryhowella, to a epibatyal assemblage near continental slope, with Costa tricostata (Reuss), Parakrithe dactylomorpha Ruggieri, Acanthocythereis aff. A. hystrix (Reuss) and a disminution of Krithe, in the Messinian.
