Abstract

Justin’s “Epitome” has been identified as the model used by Alonso de Ercilla to write the episode on Dido told in “La Araucana”. However, the real source was Francisco de Enzinas’ translation of Tito Livio’s “Todas las Decadas” (1552), which also included the “Epitome” by Florus. The knowledge of this source allows us to know how the poet worked, and some of reasons why he used Enzinas’ work.
