Abstract
The analysis of the ostracod faunes collected in two seasonal campaigns carried out In the Nador lagoon (NE Morocco) permits to delimitate four main assemblages: a) Marine, composed by Pontocythere turbida, Urocythereis oblonga or Semicytherura spp and localized near the artificial mouth; b) Inner lagoon, present near the lagoon internal margin with scarce tidal renewal and characterized by high percentages of Loxoconcha rhomboidea and Palmoconcha turbida; c) Phytal, including species (Propontocypris, Xestoleberis) closely related to dense bottom vegetation (Caulerpa); and d) Confined, observed in the southwestern and northeaster regions, being nearly monospecific (Cyprideis torosa) . Stress conditions (pollution, industrial and/or agricultural inputs, high hydrodynamic levels, urban effluents) cause the disappearance of these microcrustaceans or the scarce apparition of reworked instars.
