Abstract

The main pupose of this doctoral thesis is the development of a critical edition of Aulo Persio Flacco, traduzido en lengua castellana por Diego López. Con declaración magistral, en la que se declaran todas las historias, fábulas y antigüedades, versos dificultosos y moralidad que tiene el poeta, a work printed in 1609 and reissued in 1642. The critical edition has been approached from the comparison of two copies of each of those two editions. In this way the text of the work has been established and the variants have been collected in a critical apparatus, which is incorporated at the end of the edition. From this point, a study has been carried out in which they are reviewed successively the situation of education in post-Tridentine Spain, the position of Diego Lopez regarding Renaissance humanism, his biographical information, the set of his written work and, specifically, Aulo Persio Flacco, traducido en lengua castellana. This work is studied in relation to the Renaissance commentaries of classical authors, the sources of the text are analyzed and the moralization process that Lopez developed in his comments to the satires of the Latin poet is explained. Finally, an extensive history of the text is presented. The thesis is closed with several documentary annexes on the work, writings and life of Diego Lopez.
