Abstract

This thesis starts from the premise that the directionality in the actions of development, and specifically of local development, are aimed at the achievement of capitalist objectives of sustained growth; Which is identified, on the one hand, with large-scale economic development and economic growth as the engine of this development, and on the other, the strengthening of institutions that benefit structures more than people. From this perspe ctive, and through the study of Integral Cooperatives, we propose to develop a concept of Self-Managed Local Development. In this model development actions are aimed at achieving the real well-being of populations, and the subjects of development are the people themselves, since they are in charge of designing, planning and executing such actions; Without depending on a hierarchical and coercive structure, and without putting capital as a protagonist, but the common good, the people. Integral Cooperatives are a good example of organizations that can fit into the concept of Self-Managed Local Development, since in its structures, objectives and actions, a logic of self-management and community participation is followed, creating horizontal, Free access and assemblies, which allow the creation of common services for the whole community. Therefore, we can affirm that the Integral Cooperatives are models designed to be detached from the hierarchical and oppressive systems, in a process in which self-management, autonomy and self-sufficiency are the basis on which their actions are based. The concept of Self- Managed Local Development is in line with the objective of accommodating projects and areas of study that, although they are gradually being integrated into university and scientific areas, They do not acquire the holistic and global vision, which allows to direct the actions of the grassroots organizations towards common objectives, in order to put into practice the elements of Local Self- Managed Development
