Abstract

This paper is part of a project that is being developed at the University of Seville: “Barriers and Supports that Disabled Students identify at University" (Project financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, ref. EDU 2010-16264). A group of researchers from different areas of knowledge is carrying out a study on barriers and supports that students identify, both from the point of view of the university as an institution and in the university classrooms. The methodology used has been life story. For the collection of data, various instruments have been applied such as in-depth interviews, photos, graphic life maps, etc. Structural and narrative data analysis was performed to study the barriers. In this paper we present the results referring to the barriers and supports identified in the university classrooms. The findings reflect that the number of identified barriers has exceeded the number of supports. So, despite students recognizing that there are positive aspects that have brought help and support in their university experience, there is still a long way to go. These findings will be discussed with other national and international studies on the same subject.
