Abstract

The summer of 2013, a geophysical survey was conducted in the area of confluence of the Odiel and Tinto estuaries. Records of Side Scan Sonar and high resolution seismic profiles were obtained. The data allow to understand in detail the characteristics of surficial filling of this estuarine sector. The underground structure has been rebuilt usingto the seismic records. The information thus obtained was completed with cores taken along the path of the profiles in order to understand the types of sedimentary facies. Thus it has been able to know in detail not only the sequence of units that are more surface filling of the estuary, but the geometry of the same, their stratigraphic correlation devices and its surficial cartographic expression. The existence of a pool caused by acceleration of tidal currents at the confluence of both estuaries means that in this area have surfaced older units, which have been covered only partially by the subsequent units through prograding devices. Some of the contacts between units are erosive discordances, possibly caused by specific events of high energy.
