Resumen

This work focuses on the physical and chemical characterization of a mining effluent affected by acid mine drainage, from its source to the mouth in the Odiel river, in order to understanding the reactions involved in the modifications of the chemical characteristics of the water and precipitates resulted from water-rock-atmosphere interaction in an environment highly affected by mining activity. The channel object of study starts in an open trench from one of the main galleries of the Concepción Mine, located in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, about 10 km NW of Rio Tinto mining complex (SW Spain). This gallery intercepts one of the largest and oldest underground mining works called "gallery Carmen", allowing the outside exit of the AMD affected waters. Thus, at the end of the rainy season (April 2015) we proceeded to water sampling along this channel, from its source until its mouth, and to further analytical characterization and finally to interpretation of cause-effect relationships through application of fuzzy logic.
