Abstract

We have characterized petrographically rocks which are constructed the tholoi of La Pastora and Matarrubilla in the prehistoric site of Valencina de la Concepción. So, there are three types of rocks: Paleozoic quartzarenite, granite and Neogene calcareous sandstone; each with a specific use in the architecture of the monuments. Furthermore, the chamber of the tholos of Matarrubilla is occupied by a massive block of gypsum carved as a shallow trough. This characterization will allow comparison with natural nearby outcrops.
