Resumo

The Royal Academy of History of Madrid holds a rich collection of manuscripts gathered by Luis de Salazar y Castro (1658-1734), a great erudite of the 18th century and an exceptional figure considered the «Prince» of genealogists. It is the Academy's most important collection, containing thousands of copied documents that go far beyond the field of genealogy. We are dealing here only with the most solemn documentary model of those issued by the kings of Castile and Leon in their chancelleries during the late Middle Ages, as was the privilege rodado through a documentary and historical study. Through his copies it has been possible to recover documents that, if it were not for the enormous amount of work that he dedicated his whole life to, would have been lost forever, proving to be fundamental in solving irreparable documentary gaps from the 12th to the 15th century.
