Abstract

In this chapter we study in depth the basis of evaluation, trying to answer the following questions: The definition of evaluation, types of evaluation, its functions, the objects of evaluation, the variables that should be investigated, criteria that should be used, the audiences that should be served, the process of doing an evaluation, its methods of inquiry, techniques and instruments, who is/are the evaluator/s, the standards that should be used to judge the worth and merit of an evaluation, consequences ofthe process, evaluation report and official documents. We want to emphasize the global approach of this chapter to select and design the techniques and instruments to develop the evaluatlon process.
