Abstract

This paper studies the historical records of the council of Gibraleon (Huelva) in the Late Middle Ages, its relationship with the Territorial organization, the juristic protection and the development of the roads along with Portugal. Amongst these roads we must bare in mind the one that connected to the cities of Seville and Mèrtola, in which the Odiel River passes, forming a fiscal port, the Port of Algalame, with a confusing situation, which caused conflicts with Niebla during the Late Middle Ages. The records have demonstrated that it is possible to verify that the road already existed during the Islamic Period and that the archaeological remains have helped to locate the exact situation of it. Also gather references that help to understand the localization of road fortifications and rural farmhouses.
