Abstract

Este trabajo se propone identificar y analizar diversos loci de la literatura latina en los que se trata la figura de la matrona ideal: el arquetipo griego es, sin duda alguna, la Penélope homérica, mientras que el latino está representado por la Lucrecia liviana. Estos dos modelos se reencuentran, reelaborados y pulidos, en la poesía elegíaca de Propercio, Tibulo y Ovidio, y precisamente el de Sulmona en la obra del exilio los renueva de manera inesperada: él, de hecho, confiere a su esposa Fabia, mujer de carne y hueso, las características propias de una respetable matrona , pero reviste también su figura en clave erótico-elegíaca. Tradición, ficción literaria y realidad histórico-antropológica se funden y se confunden admirablemente en la figura de Fabia, que debe mucho a la Aretusa properciana.
