The Life of Don Francisco de Quevedo y Villegas is the first exempt biography written on the famous author. The merit is due to the Neapolitan theologian Pablo Antonio de Tarsia, who published the work in 1663 after several years of documentation. One of the most notorious features of his semblance is its commissastic character, which makes it difficult to draw a distinction between truth and fiction. This article intends to offer a general approach to Tarsia’s biographical creation and also to show the main mechanisms used by the author in the apologetic discourse.
