Abstract
This article reviews some of the institutions and texts that describe the so-called "alliance" between medical knowledge and the Spanish Monarchy at the end of the Ancien Régime, at a time when the "science of government" assumed the ambitious tasks of surveillance and intervention. This marks the beginning of a "State Medicine" (from the German "Staatsmedizine") which included forensic medicine, medical police and preventive medicine.
