Abstract

In the work Virorvm doctorvm de disciplinis benemerentivm Effigies XLVIII. Benito Arias Montano and Philips Galle (Antwerp, 1572) made an anthology of 44 portraits of european humanists. The authors of this work admired these intellectuals and in many cases they had a personal friendship with them too. Several of these humanists belong to German-speaker countries. With the desire to find common points between the german culture and the figure of Benito Arias Montano, the aim of this article is to extract the names of these humanists from the anthology of the author from Extremadura and to study their biographies, works, impact in the international humanist community and their relationships with Benito Arias Montano and Philips Galle.
