Abstract

The generic classification of Francisco de Quintana's novel, the History of Hippolytus and Aminta, is undoubtedly one of the most controversial issues of the novel, due to the compositional hybridity of the creation. After revising the contributions of the critics, this article offers a detailed analysis of the generic approach in order to present a plausible and convincing theory, supported mainly by the examination of the narrative structures and components of the fiction. In addition to the elucidation of this subject, a detailed study of literary sources of the novel is also presented in this communication.
