Abstract

This article aims to look into one particular aspect of the intertextuality between Lorca’s rural drama and the narrative written by the Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez: the construction of female characters. For that purpose, we will compare the characterization of some of the best-known women characters in the works written by these two authors in order to prove that the smilarities in their characters are not fortuitous. They are the result of a common intention: both authors want to openly condemn the retrogressive attitudes of some women in their respective worlds.
