Abstract

Within the different phases of the analytical period (pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical), it is in the first of them that the highest incidence of errors is detected. It is considered of great importance to detect and identify the causes that might origin them, as they can cause clinical errors, dissatisfaction and increased spending. One of the explanations may be the existence of great diversity of professionals from different dis-ciplines in this period. In our centre, a high number of rejected samples from primary care were empirically detected. The amount found advised the performance of activities to reduce it. In the first place, an educatio-nal intervention was addressed in the nursing staff, without conclusive results, which seems to indicate that it is necessary to include all the professionals involved, together with an adequate identification of possible causative factors. A study in two phases is designed. In the first one, using the SWOT technique (Weaknes-ses, Threats, Strengths and Opportunities), potential sources of error will be analyzed describing how to deal with its decrease and a descriptive analysis of errors and their possible causes, using frequency distribution and FMEA analysis (Failure Modal of Effects Analysis). In the second one, a quasi-experimental study will be carried out, by detecting the number of errors from primary care; the realization of an specific training programme, differentiated by professional category in all the health centres included in the study, and a new count of the errors six months after the end of the cycle of sessions.
