Abstract

This work synthesizes the main geological features of the Cabezo de La Joya (Huelva, S.O. de España). In this small hill, there are some of the main geological formations of the southwestern Guadalquivir Basin (Arenas de Huelva Formation, Arenas de Bonares Formation, High Aluvial Level), which testify the passage from shallow Pliocene marine paleoenvironments to Pleistocene fluvial scenarios. Their paleontological records are extensive and abundant, including both macrofauna (especially bivalves) and microfauna (foraminifera and ostracods), as well as numerous bioturbations. All this gives it natural and pedagogical values suitable for inclusion within the Natural Monuments of Andalusia.
