Résumé

The aim of this paper is to present our vision on basic and applied science, and the role that they have in our society. Some flaws of the scientific and institutional systems are explicit that may explain the confrontation of these two apparently se-parated fields. Furthermore, this work analyzes the role of the university extension in the articulation between basic and applied sciences, the different elements involved in this interaction and the difficulties of this process.
