Abstract

This work discusses the existence of two Roman settlements dedicated to the production of sauces and salted fishin the area of La Peguera (Punta Umbría, Huelva, Spain). For this are studied the materials of a new archaeologicalsite of Almohad chronology, recently discovered in this area, whose pottery typology allows us to relate itto the water supply to the city of Saltés (Šalṭīš), a conclusion that is supported by Arab sources that describe thecharacteristics of this settlement.
