Abstract
The teaching function in higher education is a complex task that demands reflection due to its scope related to the improvement of society's quality of life. The mastery of knowledge by those responsible for training and the ability to transmit it and make decisions with responsibility requires a permanent analysis, in order to optimize training strategies and competences. This paper reflects on critical thinking as a fundamental competence for university teachers, since it facilitates the identification of those forms of action and quality educational intervention that are most appropriate and necessary for the promotion of collaboration and consensus
