Abstract

The objective of the study was to describe the relationship between emotional intelligence, perceived performance, perception of physical condition and satisfaction with life, analyzing the differences by gender and by country (Costa Rica and Spain) in order to establish strategies that improve aspects of sports training. To do this, a questionnaire was passed to young athletes from both countries with scales that measured the aforementioned variables. The results showed positive and signifi cant correlations of emotional intelligence with perceived performance, with perceived physical condition and with life satisfaction. For their part, women in individual sports showed more emotional intelligence and life satisfaction than men. By country, Spanish female individual sport athletes showed higher scores than Costa Ricans in the variables emotional intelligence and life satisfaction, while Costa Rican male individual sport athletes showed higher emotional intelligence scores than Spanish ones.
