Abstract

This research presents cinema as an essential cultural vehicle for thoughtfulness of landscape in educational spaces, either from film´s viewings or by the construction of stories that place city and territory as the filming goal. The composition formed by cinema and landscape is guided by the dualities of the cinematographic art, the perspectives between (spectator-director and fiction-documentary) and objectivity-opinion in the documentary film. It is a contribution from the field of architecture into arts education that, from a citizen, critical and ecologist perspective, seeks to reflect on how the teaching-learning process is able to use films to understand urban and territorial projects, in addition to the evolution of cities. Awareness and citizen participation is fundamental in this process as they transform our environment and the places with which we identify. The function of facilitating the treatment of urban and/or territorial problems in classrooms is also assigned to the cinema. For these reasons, a study has been carried out to understand landscapes of general planes in cinema, in order to observe city and territory from different film creations. Different strategies in the representation of the landscape in the films are clarified to understand how knowledge can be accessed from these images. Additionally, attention has been paid to sociocultural concepts and topics provided by the landscape itself in these works, paying special attention to those that require the construction of look and critical thinking. Landscape helps to gather and strengthen the analysis, as it constitutes a public framework where education, image and ethics are related. The film workshops are a commitment to the documentary filmmaking practice and its’ qualities to constitute a first encounter with audiovisual language in educational settings. Its combination with landscape will facilitate the student's ability to communicate opinions, ideas and emotions. It is understood that reading of cities and territories competes citizenship in their rights and duties as neighbors of a community, but will also be evaluated if cinema and landscape foster human development, solidarity, commitment to the environment and understanding of their processes.
